Instant HSC-standard marking and guidance

Every answer is marked against NESA standards, so you get an exact mark and clear steps to improve it.

Your mark5/7
Band 4

Where you lost marks

You named crossing over but didn’t explain how it creates new combinations of alleles.

How to improve

Link each process to its effect. For example: crossing over swaps alleles between chromosomes, so offspring inherit new combinations.

Built for the Year 11 & 12 NSW HSC.

Every question, every mark and every topic is mapped to the NESA syllabus for these subjects, across Year 11 and Year 12.

Chris T., founder of Elouma

I saw the same mistake every year.

9

years tutoring the HSC

3,100+

students across NSW

The ones who struggled weren’t lazy. They spent their hours on what they already knew and ran out of time for what was costing them marks. I built Elouma to fix that, so every student knows exactly what to work on, every day.

4.8 ★★★★★ from Google reviews

Business trial essay: 14/20 → 18/20

The marking finally explained why my son was stuck at 14/20 in Business. It said he was listing points, not explaining them. He got 18/20 on his trial.
Sarah L.Parent of Year 12★★★★★

Modern History average: 68% → 79%

The daily guidance stops me wasting time deciding what to study. The questions are actually hard, not textbook stuff. My Modern History average went from 68% to 79%.
Jack M.Year 12 Student★★★★★

Chemistry assessment: 76% → 81%

My daughter worked hard but studied what she already knew. Elouma found her Chemistry gaps and sent her back to weak topics. Her assessment went from a C to a B.
Priya K.Parent of Year 11★★★★★

Biology practice question: 3/7 → 6/7

The marking is brutal but fair. I got 3/7 on a Biology question and the improvement notes showed exactly why. My next similar answer got 6/7.
Chris D.Year 12 Student★★★★★

Legal Studies task: 70% → 81%

My son used to stare at his notes and get overwhelmed. Now he opens the app, does the one topic it picks, and closes it. No nagging. His Legal Studies task went from 70% to 81%.
Emma R.Parent of Year 12★★★★★

English Advanced essay: 12/20 → 16/20

The English feedback kept saying my thesis was too vague. I fixed that and my last Advanced English essay went from 12/20 to 16/20.
Ben S.Year 11 Student★★★★★

Physics half-yearly rank: 42nd → 25th

We were paying $90 an hour for tutoring and couldn’t tell if it worked. This is cheaper and I can see the results. Her Physics rank improved a lot.
Olivia T.Parent of Year 12★★★★★

Economics trial: Band 4 → Band 5

The marker is the only thing that’s actually told me how to improve. It said I wasn’t integrating case studies in Economics. My trial went from Band 4 to Band 5.
Tom H.Year 12 Student★★★★★

CAFS assessment average: 60% → 72%

My son does the quickest version of everything. The marking on his CAFS short answers pulled him up. He’s stopped handing in half-finished work.
Fiona B.Parent of Year 11★★★★★

PDHPE average: 71% → 83%

The unseen questions are the best part. Past papers run out. These are new and feel like the real exam. My PDHPE marks are up 12% since Term 1.
Liam P.Year 12 Student★★★★★

Biology rank: 15th → 6th

My daughter used to highlight notes for hours instead of testing herself. This forces her to answer questions. The feedback is specific. Her Biology rank has improved.
Kate A.Parent of Year 12★★★★★

Chemistry practical: 78% → 85%

I got stuck on a Chemistry equilibrium question and the guidance broke down the steps like a tutor would. My last practical mark was an 85.
Noah W.Year 11 Student★★★★★

Ancient History essay: 15/20 → 19/20

No more arguing about what to study. The daily pick means he does one focused hour instead of three distracted ones. His Ancient History essays have improved a lot.
Rebecca J.Parent of Year 12★★★★★

Business trial: 66% → 78%

I knew the Business content but couldn’t get the marks. The marking showed I was ignoring case studies. My trial was 12 marks higher than my half-yearly.
Sam G.Year 12 Student★★★★★

SOR average: 70% → 79%

My daughter has a lot on and needs study that fits into 45 minutes. This does. She opens it and does the work. Her SOR average has gone from 70% to 79%.
Anna V.Parent of Year 11★★★★★

English Advanced essay: 16/20 → 19/20

The English feedback is detailed. It doesn’t just say ‘be specific’, it says you named a technique but didn’t explain its effect. That’s what I needed.
Daniel K.Year 12 Student★★★★★

Legal Studies rank: 24th → 11th

I worried it would be another app she’d forget. Six months later she still uses it most nights. Her Legal Studies rank has moved up significantly.
Michelle C.Parent of Year 12★★★★★

Physics topic test: 74% → 82%

The daily questions stop the ‘where do I start?’ panic. It’s just one topic, so it’s manageable. The marking is strict, which is good practice. My last Physics test was 82%.
Hamish F.Year 11 Student★★★★★

Modern History trial: 75% → 87%

Her Modern History writing has improved a lot. The feedback is relentless on structure and evidence. She writes better arguments now, not just stories.
Alice G.Parent of Year 12★★★★★

Chemistry trial: Band 3 → Band 4

I found Science daunting. The marking shows the steps I skipped instead of just saying ‘wrong’. It’s helped my Chemistry move from a low Band 3 to a high Band 4.

“I’ve downloaded study apps before and never opened them again.”

Most of them hand you a pile of content and leave the hardest part to you: deciding what’s worth your time. Elouma makes that decision. Open it, it tells you what to do, and you do it.

“Can I actually trust the marking, or will it just tell me everything’s fine?”

Fair question. General AI doesn’t know the syllabus or the band descriptors, so it tends to flatter you. Elouma’s marking is built on NESA’s band descriptors and marking guidelines, validated against marked exemplars and top-band responses, and reviewed by teachers and ex-HSC markers. It tells you what’s holding your answer back.

“Why would I pay for this when past papers are free?”

Use them. They’re excellent. But they don’t mark themselves, and there are only so many good ones before you’re recalling answers instead of being tested. Elouma adds hundreds of unseen questions and the marking papers can’t give you.

“Isn’t a tutor better than an app?”

A tutor gives you an hour or two a week. Elouma covers the other six days with what to study, questions on it, and marking at 10pm the night before an assessment.

“I barely have time as it is.”

It doesn’t add study hours, it redirects them. Same time, spent on what’s actually costing you marks instead of what’s comfortable.
